WORKOUT:
45 min weights
Rolling and Icing
Yeah... icing. I feel like such a grandma lately! I think I have a teensy bit of achilles tendinitis. Perfect right? During the last couple of miles on my run yesterday my tendon decided it wasn't enjoying it. It was a little sore feeling later in the day and then today it feels icky when I walk around. Like my tendon is a cotton thread that kind of rubs on my ankle. Gross right? Ugh... I hate that kind of feelings. I totally just grossed myself out just describing that.
So... google says that is probably achilles tendonitis. Time to rest from running again until it feels back in action. Boo...
Has anyone else dealt with this? How long do I need to rest for???

I am working through Kara Goucher's book at the bookstore. Sometimes I sneakily read things like that since we are poor. Chapter one, check!
I really liked this quote...
"Mental will is a muscle that needs exercise, just like the muscles of the body."
-Lynn Jennings, three-time World Cross Country Champion
Amen to that.
So true, and I love that you can apply that to just about anything. There is the OBVIOUS correlation with running but how about all the other things we do that require mental focus and determination?
Like huffing it away on an elliptical for an hour? I think THAT takes some mental muscle. Or convincing yourself that a apple will be just as tasty of a treat as that leftover cake sitting on the counter. What about getting up early to hit the gym when you bed is so warm and cozy? Or even HARDER, getting yourself there after work???
I could think of about a million things that this could relate to in multiple areas of life.
It's kind of funny to picture your brain like a flabby muscle. Don't be flabby! WORK IT!

How strong is YOUR mental muscle?
I think I am pretty mentally strong considering I decided to polish off this, instead of going to town on coconut ice cream with chocolate sauce. Right?
What tasks do you consciously have to FOCUS on and push through to complete them?
Does not going to bed at 7:30 count? I am going to PUSH through till 9 tonight. ;)
If you are a tendinitis expert... PLEASE tell me what to do!?!
If you are a tendinitis expert... PLEASE tell me what to do!?!
ahhh! oh no! i hope you are feeling better quickly. I have tendonitis all the time. okay...not all the time but I struggled with it constantly when I played softball...the best I could do was take ibuprofen and ice after every practice and game. I am not sure about your achilles though! thinking of you!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that quote as well....SO good. my mental muscle has felt a little stretched these days but I am proud of myself for sticking with my workout routine as much as possible. I think it is actually harder for me to take a break or to structure my time. Right now it is KILLING me to not read blogs (I have pretty much only read the Utah Co girls today as a compromise) but I know that I gotta get through school because that is why I am out here. then eventually it will be back to fun and games...I hope :)
I am gonna keep thinking of that quote though..it is one to live by!
I love your virtual hug!
ReplyDeleteSure hope your tendon gets to feeling better! I unfortunately have no suggestions :(
Oh, my vitamix....amazing! I love it! If you're someone who would use it a lot, then YES, I'd highly recommend it! If you're just an occasional blender user, then I'd say no. It comes with a 7 yr warranty, so you know you're getting a quality machine.
I've never heard of any sales on it, so my best thought would be to purchase from bed bath and beyond with a 20% off coupon (I can send ya one if you don't have any!!) or find a store that sells it (like williams sonoma) and buy online through ebates or shop at home.
I am so so sorry about your injury. I hope you start feeling better soon and can run again soon. Good for you for noticing it so quick and acting on it. I am incredibly impressed with how in tune with your body you are.
ReplyDeleteI 100% believe in mental toughness. We are forced to make mentally tough decisions every single day and I truly believe that disciplined running makes us mentally stronger.
I can't wait for your giveaway!! Woo Hoo!
My running buddy had recurring achilles tendonitis and then he started doing these hip strengthening exercises and it's gone completely away. I'll try to get more details for you. I've found that things are not always what they seem with those things. My plantar fascia started hurting because my hammy was tight. It's all connected...
ReplyDeleteIce and ibuprofen! Or see a sports med dr and get. A steroid dose pack. I had those gel inserts, and i think those helped the most. Just take it easy. Mine took about 3 weeks to feel better. But i kept running (because i'm crazy)... but it was like night and day. One day it was still achy then the next day... it felt fine. And I've been fine ever since. :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. i love my hair. I have to know what products you used. My hair is so stinkin' soft!!! Had a blast chatting with you last night. I was telling my mom "we talked about running for 2.5 hours!! It was awesome!!" :)
O girl, mamaw here is always in bed at 7:30. My life is awesome.
ReplyDeleteDef ice it and get lots of massages ;)
That is such a great quote! I think I'm going to stick it on my fridge!
ReplyDeleteUgh! Good luck with the tendonitis. I just started running and luckily haven't had to deal with any injuries yet. I don't know if my mental muscle is strong enough to deal with that yet! It's getting there though...since I never really ran a day in my life before a couple of months ago and I am getting ready for my first 5K!
ReplyDeleteJust started following your blog and saw that your husband joined the Navy! My husband has been in the Navy for about 7 1/2 years and we are stationed in Virginia Beach right now. Can't wait to follow along and get to know you better through your blog!
Oh no! I hope you start feeling better soon!!
ReplyDeleteI know that my physical performance is completely dependant on my mental game. We have had a lot of added stress and pressure lately, and my physical side, especially running, has definitely suffered. I keep saying that once everything calms down I will get it together, but thanks for reminding me that I need to start working the mental game now, no excuses.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to try ice baths. I am training for my first 1/2 and I know at some point I will need to take the plunge, no pun intended. I really don't like being cold, so I wish there was some way around ice baths.
