WORKOUT:
3.3 mile run
30 min weights
20 min stretchingLet's talk AWESOME SAUCE! This girl has a Garmin in the mail. IN THE MAIL I said!!!
I have day dreamed for a long time about blissfully walking out the door, no real thought as of where I would run, just to meander and explore random neighborhoods as they looked appealing to me.
"Oh! See that pretty tree over there? I am gonna go check it out."
"Wow, feeling extra energy today. I am gonna tack on some extra miles!"
Well, this dream has just become a reality. Thank you girlies, Janae, Ashley, Katie and everyone else for all inspiring me to take the plunge! I had asked about using an IPHONE app vs a Garmin to track miles and they set me straight. I HAD been waiting for the IPHONE 5 to come out. We are planning on upgrading our phones when it does and I planned to just use the running apps on there. I wasn't sure how that compared to a Garmin though. Some reviews I read were raving and others were totally not happy with it.
Sometimes I am just too frugal for my own good. This girl needed a Garmin
I think my list was pretty convincing.
This man is GOOD.TO.ME.
Now I just have to WAIT for it to arrive in the mail! I won't have it in time for SLC this weekend, but I am not going to complain. Probably better since I am not used to running with it yet and it might serve as more of a distraction right now. But come June for the Utah Valley Marathon , I will be a pro!

Ben whipped us up some dinner last night.
Grabbed some chicken breasts and put them in a 9x9 dish, threw in some spaghetti sauce, a can of diced tomatoes, fresh garlic, s&p, and tossed that baby in the oven.
I had mine on lettuce with a little pasta on the side. I also sprinkled some fresh parsley and nutritional yeast on top. Quick and easy!

Thanks for the feedback on the POOCHES. I feel more reassured about the possibility of a Pit Bull.
Do you run with a pooch? Are they good running buddies? Do they run in circles around you until you are tied up in a knot? Do you have to take breaks a lot for them? Do you feel like you could run alone with a big doggie in the wee morning hours and be safe?
Send me a picture of you and your pooch or even better running with your pooch! (If it is a running pic, I just might have to post it.) I would love to see them! Ben is a little worried I might RUN one into the ground. Literally. But I think he would rather it was the poor dog than him.
I might be a better dog "EXERCISER" than a dog owner.

ReplyDeleteYippeee!! A new Garmin!! You will LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteI will send you a pic of me and my beloved running buddy...Mr. Atticus :)
I have a large Siberean Huskie named Everest. he is a little out of shape right now, but at his prime, he could run 20 miles with me. The biggest problem is keeping him cool in the summer on a log run, it requires lots of stops for sprinklers and ditches. I am comfortable running in the dark "alone" if I am with Everest. He is actually a very good natured dog, but he looks menacing and I'm positive he would protect me if he thought I was being threatened.
ReplyDeleteMy buddy had a boxer that could run almost as far as my huskie. He didn't appear to have the same problems with the heat. Just a totally different tempermant.
Which Garmin did you get? I've been thinking about getting one. . .is it a heart monitor too?! Can you make a photocopy of the reasons list for me (;
ReplyDeletetotally jealous!
YAY!!! You will love it! I would definitely recommend a Gentle Leader head leash for your future pooch. It will keep him/her from dragging you down the road!! I have one for Winston and I honestly cannot run him without it! Best investment evverrrr.
ReplyDeleteI love your list! And what a sweetie to get it for you!
ReplyDeleteHello, I am new to your blog and already love it! Congrats on the Garmin :-)
ReplyDeleteI have a running companion named Sofie Lou, she is a German Shorthair Pointer, a dog that is bred for long days running and hunting in some pretty random outdoor conditions. If raised right these dogs are your perfect running companion. Mine is an apartment dweller (which they don't recommend) and happens to do great and loves it. I lucked out in that she is high energy but also mellows out so long as she gets her exercise which she does :-). Even if she doesn't (due to bad weather-snow, or other things) she is happy to get out for at least 20 minutes to stretch her legs, use the restroom, and be outdoors with me. She can last for hours running outside and is my frequent running, hiking, and biking companion.
My dad who for decades ran marathons and constantly trained for them had labs, a springer spaniel and a German Wirehair Pointer which all accompanied him on his runs for years.
So long as you train them appropriately (we're talking taking them to school and teaching them basic things like to heel with your voice and easy corrections), start after they are 6 months of age at least with short runs (so as to not ruin their growth or cause injuries) you will be set and have the most amazing running companion! My key to a great run with Sofie Lu is Ruffwear's belt leash. I am not sure what it is actually called but it is perfect for running and is ideal if you're like me and hate holding on to things during your runs. It's easy to hook on and off so that at points of the run Sofie can be free to sprint around the open fields while I am running on or off road. As soon as she sees me pull that sucker off the rack she goes bonkers!
If you have any additional questions about running with your dog I'd be more than happy to help you out :-)
