Ice Bath

WORKOUT:
45 min weights
I completed 3 sets of 15 for each exercise listed below.

CHEST
Bench Press
Chest Bench Fly
Incline Chest Press w/ Dumbbells
Chest Cable Fly
Machine Chest Fly
Pushups

SHOULDERS
Lateral Raise
Front Raise
Overhead Press
Modified Shoulder Fly
Shoulder Rotation

BACK
Wide Grip Lat Pull-down
Seated Low Row
Lower Back Extension on Ball
Reverse Fly on Ball
Reverse Fly with Band

I didn't complete everything in this order, but they are shown here by muscle groups. I bounce around from one thing to the next, super setting 2 or 3 different exercises that use different muscle groups. That keeps me working the whole time and gives each group an active rest before I come back to it again.

Ben says I have ADD when I do weights. I GUESS I can see why. :)

After the marathon on Saturday, I decided to try an ICE BATH.
I DO NOT like being cold, so I figured it might be a little intense but that I could muster through it.
I was apprehensive but it's worth it for the legs right!?!
AHH!!! I couldn't even stand it!
There was LOTS of squealing!!!

I think I sat there for about 5 seconds before I had to jump out.
My face says it all in this picture.
I have no idea how people do this.
I gave it another try... just halfway.
Still CRAZY cold, but at least I could tolerate it.
So I knelt there like a woman in labor...
until my legs went NUMB.
I see why people do it, it's DEFINETLY a lot better than just icing with an ice pack.
Man... that is NOT for wussies though.

 Some post race snacks.
30 second Chicken Salad. Toss together some canned chicken, chopped celery, mustard, craisins and pepper.
I enjoyed it with Rosemary and Olive Oil Crackers and popcorn on the side.

Oh, and these were DELIGHTFUL as well.

Lemon Zest Applesauce Cookies with Lemon Frosting.

Moist, cakey, perfect to bit into.
I will post the recipe tomorrow!

  1. Definitly have never taken a full on ice bath, but I've been to the scandinave spa here where you stay in the sauna/hot tub as long as possible, then jump into ice cold water for 5 seconds right after... that's about as long as I'd last!

  2. I haven't taken an ice bath, but I'm wondering if I should have after my first Half Marathon, I had some seriously knee pain and it may have helped, but I didn't even think about it! lol

  3. HAHAHHA! Those ice bath pictures are HYSTERICAL!!!! I don't even have the mental capacity to THINK about enduring that. I'm a no cold no way kinda gal!!

Do you have definitions for all those weight lifts? I could probably look them up actually. . .haha. I need a little more variety!

  4. I just started following you and because of you I FINALLY got my own twitter :)

Ice baths are tough, but they certainly get the job done. I like you only put in my knees down :)

  5. I'm even more of a baby. I sat, decided it was a no-go. So I stood and my feet took an ice bath haha.
I'm impressed you were able to kneel in it. I couldn't even do that!

  8. You are a lot braver than I am. I literally petrified of the whole icebath idea. All I want when I am done running outside is a long hot shower. oops!

The food looks delicous as always, I am nearly salavating at my work station. :) Have a good night!
